UK Study Reveals That Employees And Employers Across the UK Believe Women Make Better Bosses...

Jim Kissane's Workforce Development Blog had a post relating to women managers, "Women Make The Best Bosses"  Jim's blog does a very good job covering workforce trends.

He cites an article from the UK's The Register, "BT Says Women Make The Best Bosses" that says, "Women over 50 will be the best bosses in the future because they understand the importance of flexible working, according to research from BT.

The article continues, " A YouGov survey of employers and employees across the UK found that women are more comfortable managing a workforce that works flexible hours, or from home. They were 50 per cent more likely than men to say they trusted their staff.."

So, it seems like the pool of respondents for this study really see the importance of flexibility and flexible environments....one could easily extrapolate that this group of respondents is probably pretty comfortable with e-Learning.

In Corporate Training...Not So Much Lazy Minds As the Bottom Line.....

The elearning coming of age blog had a post, "Corporate Training-Lazy Minds" which mentions a common problem for most corporations, not just in the telcom industry.

I would say, its not about them being of lazy minds, its  has to do with the bottom line....i.e. does that type of training have a direct impact on ROI or is it just something they do.  Is it worth it for them to develop their own custom training as opposed to an off-the-shelf course?..How and why should the money be spent? And or do they have any budget for e-Learning, period?  Does the CFO, CEO, and other high level stakeholders see the importance of it and relate it back to organizational performance?  There are many things to consider here in this context, atleast from my experience....

e-Book Primer

Here's a link for your digg or del.icio.us account (at least that's where I keep lots of my favorite e-Learning resources & cool links) Found this on Jane Knight's blog, its from Educause, "7 Things You Should Know About E-Books".  It's a good primer piece about e-books for anyone thinking of writing one.

Time's Person Of The Year Is You..Acknowledging The Proliferation Of User Developed Content

Time person of the year. You.

As someone who is a blogger, I am forced to wonder if this is Time's way of rationalizing  the demise of traditional media and maybe their own hardcopy subscription rates..... [really Mom, everyone else is doing it].  Whatever the case, user developed content is flourishing all across the Internet.

How much, where, what kind, which instances, where exactly it fits into e-learning in the corporate training context is another story...

Rapid e-Learning Revisited

I am always a little leery of articles that make pronouncements, but I saw this article on Learning Circuits and thought it would be good to push out to you folks, unfortunately, the content development tools talked about in the article are not programs people can master in one day, so the whole 'rapid e-Learning' concept to a certain extent, is a fallacy in and of itself.

Good e-Learning development does take some time and thought, sure, great to record an interview on the fly for a podcast, or do a web conference, etc. but its so much more than that.

Opportunity Cost Associated With Most Job Appraisals

James Adonis wrote a recent article that bashes 6 month or 12 month  standard performance review handed out by most HR departments in his article, "Appraisals Lack One Thing: Performance".

He advocates continuous feedback recommending short, monthly reviews, and other techniques as an alternative to the 6 month or 12 month standard performance review.

Many of our clients use threaded discussions, the online survey tool,  and the competency management regularly to perform monthly reviews these tasks, so I know it is being done, maybe the practice is not widespread, but I cannot say for sure.
