College Text Books Can Now Be Downloaded Through Ipods and MP3 Players....

A new breed of peer to peer file sharing companies for college text books has begun to crop up. The article speculates that there will be a new "blended" model that will arise where students buy online access to a text book for a certain amount of time instead of buying the book. Online access to the book will also include web tutorials and learning activities.

Corporate e-Learning Adoption Issues

Here is a white paper...Implementing elearning from the corporate perspective by Rita Benninck

Abstract:

"What are the success factors for enterprises wanting to engage with elearning? What are some of the barriers? This article explores issues around the adoption of elearning within the corporate world, including models, key drivers, barriers and recommendations for success. Based on research and interviews with staff engaging in corporate elearning it is clear that there is no one right answer for how to develop and deliver elearning effectively. Tapping into actual needs of the organization and
the learners is the key to success. A key message is to learn from others’ experiences, to utilize their skills and expertise, and where possible form partnerships with organizations with similar or complementary needs. The article includes a list of useful web sites to provide further information and guidance."

More Evidence That Employees Who Receive Training Stay At Their Jobs Longer Than Those Who Do Not

Last May, I posted about a growing body of research which flys in the face of the notion that if you train your employees and pay for their education, they will leave. Below is the post

New Study Reveals Corporate Tuition Reimbursement/Aid Helps Employee Retention

Well, I recently found a report on studies done in the UK which also support this premise.

If you train them they will leave (or will they?)

Here is an excerpt:

"However, one of the major fears experienced by employers where training provision is concerned is that they may not be the main beneficiaries of the investment. They fear their more highly-skilled employees will take their skills elsewhere and other companies (in particular their competitors) will reap the benefits instead. Recent studies by the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES) suggests that these fears are unjustified and in fact the reverse may be true."

The article states, "...effective training improves employee job satisfaction and retention. One example cited highlights this effect, with staff turnover falling from 42% to just 2% after implementing a staff training program. Staff retention was found to be just one of the benefits, with motivation, productivity and safety awareness enhancements also noted."
